| I've been pro-life for over 4 decades. I have two children with muscular dystrophy. The Dr. said they would be dead at age 16, they are both alive 33 and 32 yrs. old. I have personally helped unwed mothers with shelter, jobs, education, transportation, clothes and food. My wife, Ann, was born to a single lady and then adopted. I believe in the right to Life, Liberty and US Constitution. We fought a civil war over the right to hold a human being as property. An unborn child is not property, but a viable human who suffers pain in abortion. | |||

| Eliminate the state business tax and surcharge. Decrease sales and income taxes. Less government means more freedom. Many school superintendents and state workers make a 6 figure income, this is absurd. Much of the bureaucracy is duplication between Wayne County and State Offices that could be combined. It takes $37,500 to keep one person on a welfare grant of $5000 per year. This is ridiculous. Eliminate over regulations and unnecessary licenses. Many services are done both by the state and federal government, pick one. Productive training and education goals could replace welfare. SSI is available to disabled. | |||
| A free-market system needs capital in the hands of the consumer/ taxpayer. Less taxes means more purchasing power and freedom on how to spend one's hard earned money. With more people able to buy things, more things need to be made and sold; therefore, manufacturing and retail jobs are expanded. The Republican-Democrats have proved that with high taxes and governmental wasteful (abuse and fraud) spending unemployment remains high. Required work for benefits would be an incentive to go back to work in the private sector. Think outside the box, cleaning up the environment means job-training, better health and increased tourism. | |||
| The war on drugs is not successful and has failed. We have crime and wasted tax dollars being poured into this bottomless pit. With medical marijuana legalization, petty arrests should stop. Review those inmates who are there for "victimless" crimes and send them home. When nursing home patients want to trade places with inmates; there is something wrong. MI has largest (expensive) prison system in the world. Boot-camps like Arizona are more successful in rehabilitation and cutting down on repeat offenders. Inmates could be used to fix up roads. Manual labor could help clean up urban blight. | |||

| The State of Michigan is the oldest Republic to not have capital punishment (c.200 yrs). Let the Federal government enforce its own laws; however MI citizens voted to have medical marijuana and this should be decriminalized. Incarceration is not rehabilitation. Mandatory counseling and treatment programs have been successful. The state has many laws that should be repealed. Outdated regulations should be dumped and offices closed. | |||

| Every student deserves the best education possible. Education funding per student should be available for parents to choose. New Orleans voucher system is very successful. Public schools that fail should be closed. Not keeping the "promise" money was a huge mistake of the current legislature and administration. Illegal immigrants are foreigners are they not? Teaching to the test, doesn't help teaching the fundamentals to individuals who learn differently. Parents and educators are better equipped to use common sense then bureaucrats. | |||

| Marriage is a religious institution. I think that the government needs to be out of the marriage business altogether. Every individual deserves to be treated fairly and with dignity. Government should not be in the science business. Government should not regulate who or how many you hire or fire that is the prerogative of the business owner. The local courts do just fine in setting up attorneys for those who cannot afford one, see constitutional right. | |||
| Starting with my own salary, cutting government spending by a least 10 to 25 percent would be first on the list. I plan to donate half of wages to charity. Second, cutting taxes: eliminate business tax and surcharge, cut sales and income taxes would follow. Allowing free market principles to flourish, means jobs. Common sense, realistic constitutional authority must be used when balancing the budget. |
